Pop-up constructivism
The primary concept of the work is a pop-up book and when opened, reveals a 3-D structure. A combination of visual and verbal elements is used to pay homage to the Constructivist (art) movement. The most obvious is the pop-up version of Tatlin’s Tower, which is now regarded as the most widely recognized symbol of the movement itself. The second element is the typical black-white and red color palette used in many works of that time. Last but not least, the book shows a printed poem titled Destrukcija (Destruction) by a Slovenian modernist poet Srečko Kosovel who was influenced by the Constructivist movement. As an interactive element, pressing the button reveals a projection of the word LIE, which is one of the themes of Kosovel’s song(s) and a theme of the Constructivist struggle at large. To reveal the insincerity of the bourgeois elite and their art, which they believed was out of touch with reality for many of the working class.
