Katong’s touch

Katong’s Touch is a publication that reflects the nature of the town of Tanjong Katong. Katong is a tactile and textural town, with many handiworks and intricately designed shophouses. The town at its core is highly textural, but how can texture be reflected without being literal? This publication explores the idea of non-literal texture and defines texture as a variation of depths that is not only seen but also subconsciously felt. The interplay of positive and negative space paired with a seemingly nonlinear experience of reading the publication demands effort and attention from the reader. This resistance creates a subconscious texture akin to running your fingers against a brick wall or a piece of fabric.
